GENERAL INFORMATION:Kingella kingae is a gram-negative, facultative anaerobic coccobacillus belonging to the Neisseriaceae family. It has emerged as a significant cause of pediatric bacteremia and bone infections in children aged 6 to 48 months. While naturally residing in the oropharyngeal lining of children within this age range, K. kingae can breach the bloodstream through compromised mucosa, leading to systemic infections. With the exception of endocarditis and osteoarticular infections, infections typically manifest with mild symptoms. There is a growing incidence of invasive K. kingae infections observed in the United States, Western Europe, and Israel, although the global impact of the disease is not completely understood.
