GENERAL INFORMATION:Orthobunyavirus oropoucheense (also known as Oropouche virus) is a single-stranded, negative-sense RNA virus belonging to the Orthobunyavirus genus. This virus is transmitted by the mosquitoes Aedes serratus and Culex quinquefasciatus, primarily affecting sloths, marsupials, primates, birds and humans. Infection causes a disease known as Oropouche fever, which has caused several outbreaks over the last century. Oropouche fever typically presents with symptoms such as high fever, headache, myalgia, joint pain, and in some cases, a rash or nausea.
