The Real Time PCR detection Kit Vector-Borne Pathogens Panel (Leishmania spp. and Ehrlichia spp.) comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Leishmania spp. and Ehrlichia spp. detection by using qPCR.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
Leishmania is a genus of Trypanosomatida protozoa and is the parasite responsible for the disease leishmaniasis. It is spread through sandflies of the genus Phlebotomus in the Old World, and of the genus Lutzomyia in the New World. Their primary hosts are vertebrates; Leishmania commonly infects hyraxes, canids, rodents, and humans. Ehrlichia spp. is a small, Gram-negative, obligate intracellular bacteria. Several species can cause infection (Ehrlichiosis) in humans. These diseases are considered zoonotic as the main reservoir for the pathogen is in animal, usually mammal species. They replicate in the cytoplasmic vacuoles of host cells, especially granulocytes and monocytes, to form microcolonies called morulae. These agents are transmitted through the bite of infected tick. Rodents, deer, roe deer, foxes, cattle, sheep, goats, horses and dogs are reservoirs of these bacteria in Europe. Infection in humans is manifested as a nonspecific flu-like illness.
