Detection of RNA of the phosphoprotein P gene of PI3 genotypes A, B and C

Background: Bovine parainfluenza virus 3 is an enveloped, single-stranded, negative-sense RNA ((-)ssRNA) virus, belonging to the Paramyxoviridae family and genetically and antigenically related to human parainfluenza virus 3. Three genotypes, A (BPIV3a), B (BPIV3b) and C (BPIV3c) have been described, based on genetic and phylogenetic analysis. BPIV3 infections are found in a wide variety of mammals including cattle, humans, sheep, goats, bison, guinea pigs, rhinoceros, moose, bighorn sheep and camels. Cross-species infections have been reported. Usually, viral infection is asymptomatic or associated with only mild respiratory symptoms. In cattle, it is associated with the clinical picture known as shipping fever. It is an important virus of the bovine respiratory disease complex. When coinfection with other pneumonia-associated agents (e.g. respiratory syncytial virus, bacteria) is present, severe respiratory disease may develop.

Description: ViroReal® Kit Bovine Parainfluenza Virus 3 uses one-step reverse transcription RT real-time PCR for the detection of the phosphoprotein P gene of the so far known BPIV3 genotypes A, B and C. Our carefully designed primers and probe ensure highest sensitivity and specificity. The kit consists of an assay mix for the detection of the pathogen as well as a positive control and an internal positive control (IPC). Reverse transcription and PCR can be performed in one reaction well.
